The host of the meeting - Deputy Prime Minister Henryk Kowalczyk - thanked for the participation in the talks and underlined their role.

– Today's meeting of agriculture ministers from Poland, Ukraine, the USA as well as the EU agriculture commissioner is an unprecedented event for global food security, said Henryk Kowalczyk.

The head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture condemned Russia's attack on Ukraine and pointed out that it had caused global effects, disrupting the situation on agricultural markets.

– Therefore, the main part of our discussion focused on looking for ways to unblock transport routes for agricultural products from Ukraine, informed the host of today's meeting.

Transport routes, which could be an alternative to the blocked ports of the Azov and Black Seas, run through Poland and its seaports. Therefore, Poland recommends Ukraine to use Polish port structures which are important links in many international logistic chains, and which have a particularly good network of shipping connections operated by leading shipowners. Polish seaports of basic importance for the national economy (Gdańsk, Gdynia, Szczecin and Świnoujscie) are fully prepared for loading/discharging Ukrainian cargoes. They are of universal character and offer the possibility of handling practically all types of cargo. At the same time, Polish seaports are interested in co-operation with Ukrainian partners both in terms of grain export and fuel import, as well as in shipping of any other products. We remain open for cooperation and will comprehensively support the Ukrainian side in this difficult situation.

Deputy Prime Minister Henryk Kowalczyk also stressed that he is in permanent contact with Minister Mykola Solskyi.

US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack expressed full support for Deputy Prime Minister Henryk Kowalczyk in condemning Russia's aggression against Ukraine. At the same time, he highly appreciated the Poles who have opened their homes to refugees as well as the Ukrainians who are fighting very bravely against the aggressor.

The representative of the US administration drew attention to the global situation.

– There are many countries that depend on Ukrainian supplies, and we need to find effective solutions to this problem, said US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack.

He also informed that the US Department of State is considering another aid package for Ukraine which, at the same time, will help to cover the costs of the refugees.

– As an international community, we need to contribute to countering speculation in agricultural markets, the US agriculture secretary added, while announcing that his country will participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine after the end of warfare.

Ukraine's Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Solskyi thanked Poland, the United States and the European Union for their help and support in these difficult times.

– What we need most are opportunities for agricultural exports, grain and other products, stressed the Ukrainian minister.

He also added that Poland is one of the key partners in terms of export opportunities, especially towards the European Union.

– The support provided by Poland, the United States and the European Union is especially important, because this war has already caused problems all over the world, said Minister Mykola Solskyi.

The EU Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski pointed out that today's meeting is a continuation of the dialogue that has been going on.

– We must avoid the risk of jeopardising global food security, the Commissioner highlighted.

He added that the European Union has guaranteed its food security, but many countries of the world are at risk.

– The latest communication from the European Commission concerns arrangements for the creation of solidarity corridors, the provision of equipment for them, logistics and maximum simplification at borders for the movement of products, recalled Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski.
