Talks of the Ministers of Agriculture of the five frontline countries
– "We talked about the fact that we must fight together for the interests of farmers in our countries, and farmers in the entire European Union," the Polish Minister conveyed while summarising the talks among the Ministers of the five frontline countries.
Transit of agricultural products from Ukraine
Minister Robert Telus pointed out that the search for solutions was in the interest of the entire community. That is why the frontline countries support the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products, particularly beyond the borders of the European Union.
– "We continue to support transit and are in favour of the transit of cereals from Ukraine being financially supported by the EU," said the Head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Flexible product list
Minister Telus informed that one of the points of the position of the Ministers of the five frontline countries was a flexible list of products banned from import from Ukraine.
– "We call, for instance, for raspberries or honey to be included in this list," the Minister added.
Polish-French talks
Moreover, Minister Robert Telus held numerous bilateral talks during the informal Council of Ministers in Cordoba.
– "I met with the French Minister of Agriculture. We have agreed that tools are indispensable for the future and that the European Union is facing a test of European solidarity," stressed the Head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Evaluation of the talks so far
– "When I talk to European Ministers of Agriculture, I feel that they understand the problem and the need to extend the ban on imports of Ukrainian products to frontline countries. They realise that Putin is playing the food game. Nevertheless, the decision resists with the President of the European Commission," emphasised Minister Robert Telus.
– "We must show wisdom and reason. However, we are counting on the decision to extend protective measures beyond 15 September to be substantive and not political," he added.
The Head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development assured that it would be decided in line with farmers' interests.
– "We will not allow grain imports from Ukraine to Poland," he assured.
