Today, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Czesław Siekierski held a meeting with the representatives of agricultural organisations of these countries under the Lublin Triangle. The meeting participants confirmed their readiness for close cooperation in the issues related to agriculture, including trading in agri-food products. Solidarity and willingness to continue support to the Ukrainian party were also highlighted.
Summary of the existing cooperation
Minister Czesław Siekierski summarised the existing cooperation with the Ukrainian and Lithuanian parties and informed the participants on the talks held at the Agriculture and Fisheries Council on 24 June 2024 in Brussels. He pointed out at the challenges faced by the agricultural sector and stressed that the Ukrainian cereals are needed in the Southern European countries, such as Spain and Portugal, rather than in Poland.
– Aid for Ukraine cannot be provided at the expense of the border countries – emphasised the Minister. Czesław Siekierski reminded also that since 1 January 2025 Poland will hold the Council Presidency. – In its activities, the Polish party wishes to take into account the specific nature of the agricultural sector in various countries of the European Union – said the head of the ministry of agriculture.
The Chairman of the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Mirosław Maliszewski informed on signing yesterday - together with the Chairman of the Ukrainian and Lithuanian Agriculture Committee – of a joint declaration from the Trilogue Meeting of the Parliamentary Delegations of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine. This document points out that the problems on the agricultural markets in Europe are caused by the aggressive and illegal activities of the Russian party. The signatories call also the EU institutions and Member States to introduce the ban on import of the Russian and Belarusian agricultural products to the European Union.
The representatives of the agricultural organisations of the three countries pointed out that the planned accession of Ukraine to the European Union, to which Poland and Ukraine belong, should be well prepared and based on clear and transparent criteria.
