Prospects for the development of cooperation

At the meeting held on 14 March 2023, Deputy Minister Krzysztof Ciecióra informed that Poland is a significant producer and exporter of agri-food goods in the European Union and the world.

Deputy Minister Ciecióra expressed his satisfaction that Algeria remains the first recipient of Polish agricultural goods in Africa. He pointed out that Polish agri-food companies are interested in the Algerian market and ready to increase their agricultural exports.

The Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development stressed that the potential for trade cooperation is not fully realised. He stated that the Polish side is particularly keen on the possibility of exporting beef and beef products and slaughter cattle. Deputy Minister Ciecióra's visit to Algeria was an opportunity for representatives of the Parties' veterinary services management to discuss the issue of access for Polish agri-food products of animal origin to the Algerian market.

Position of the Algerian side

Minister Henni reported that Algeria has a surplus of poultry meat but experiences a shortage of beef during the holidays, especially during Ramadan.

The Algerian Minister also encouraged Polish entities to invest in agricultural machinery within Algeria to create a joint venture to meet the needs of farming businesses in the southern part of the country.

Economic Forum

During his visit to Algeria, Deputy Minister Ciecióra also took part in the Economic Forum dedicated to promoting Polish enterprises in the country and a networking meeting with Polish and Algerian companies representing, among others, the agri-food industry.

Many Algerian companies showed interest in establishing cooperation, mainly importing fruit and fruit tree seedlings from Poland.

Polish exports to Algeria

According to data for 2022, we exported agricultural goods to Algeria for EUR 242.18 million. We mainly exported condensed milk and cream (66% of total agricultural exports), tobacco, infant food preparations, barley, potato starch and sugar syrups.
