Polish-Argentine talks

05.07.2022

Mr. Ryszard Bartosik, Secretary of State, met with Mrs. Ana Maria Ramirez, the Ambassador of Argentina to Poland. Their talks concerned the current cooperation in the field of agriculture between Poland and Argentina, including the issue of the elimination of barriers impeding the access of agri-food products from Poland to the Argentine market.

The status of the present trade

Describing the status of the mutual trade, Mr. Ryszard Bartosik, Secretary of State, noted Poland’s negative balance in its trade in agri-food products with Argentina, which was almost EUR 713 million in 2021.

“We would like very much to level out this significant disproportion. We believe that there is a potential for increasing the exports of agri-food products from Poland to Argentina. Positive effects in this scope can be brought by widening the access to the Argentine market and the range of food exported from Poland,” Deputy Minister Bartosik pointed out.

Polish proposals

The Deputy Head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture presented Polish proposals related to the opening of the Argentine markets to Polish agri-food products. Poland is interested in the completion of the work to approve veterinary certificates, among others, for poultry products, milk and dairy products from goat and sheep milk, hatching eggs and chicks, collagen and gelatine.

“I am certain that the opening of the Argentine market to these products can bring benefits to both Polish exporters and Argentine entrepreneurs and end-consumers,” the Secretary of State stressed.

Argentina’s position

Mrs. Ana Maria Ramirez, the Ambassador of Argentina to Poland, responded positively to the Polish proposals for the diversification and balancing of the mutual trade. She declared support from the Embassy of Argentina in Poland in respect of the access to the market and the elimination of barriers.

Exports to Argentina

In 2021, the value of the Polish exports of agri-food products to Argentina was EUR 3.7 million. The Polish main exports to the Argentine market include bread, fine bakery wares and processed tobacco. In turn, the imports reached the value of EUR 716 million. Just as in the previous years, the basic imported commodity was soybean oil cakes, used as a component of animal feeds.

The meeting took place on 5 July 2022.
