Polish-Chinese talks
04.04.2023
Today, Mr. Henryk Kowalczyk, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, met with Mr. Sun Linjiang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Poland. During the meeting they discussed the most important issues in the scope of bilateral cooperation in the agri-food sector.
The state of the relations in the field of agriculture
Deputy Prime Minister Henryk Kowalczyk stressed Poland’s growing deficit in its trade in agri-food products with China. He pointed out that only a significant enhancement of the access of Polish food to the Chinese market could bring an effect in the form of a change in this trend.
“Poland is an important producer and exporter of agri-food products at the European and global levels”.
“I am convinced that our exporters will cope on the Chinese market, provided that they are provided with such a possibility or it is restored to them. In particular, we count on a change in China’s approach to the exports of Polish beef, poultry meat and pork,” Deputy Prime Minister Henryk Kowalczyk said.
The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed the expectation of a quick conclusion of the process of approving other product groups for exports to the People’s Republic of China, including, among others, billberry fruit and pet foods.
Ambassador Sun Linjiang expressed his appreciation of the high quality of Polish food. He also declared the readiness of the Chinese Agricultural Administration (the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the General Customs Administration) to develop cooperation in the field of agriculture, including a dialogue on increasing the access of Polish agricultural products to the Chinese market.
Trade in agri-food products
China is a very important partner of Poland in agri-food trade. In 2022, our exports reached a value of EUR 188.6 million. For several years now Polish milk and dairy products have enjoyed the largest interest on the Chinese market.
