07.06.2024

On 4-6 June 2024, the Secretary of State Jacek Czerniak visited Beijing. The Deputy Minister was accompanied by the Chief Veterinary Officer Krzysztof Jażdżewski. The main objective of the talks was to continue the arrangements with China on the further expansion of access to the Chinese market for Polish agri-food products and the increase in the food export from Poland.

The visit of the MARD delegation took place at the invitation of the General Administration of Customs (GACC) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), provided by the Deputy Minister of the GACC Lyu Weihong during a meeting in Warsaw on 18 April 2024.

The agenda of the visit of Deputy Minister Czerniak included meetings with the representatives of the PRC government – the management of the General Administration of Customs (5 June) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China (6 June).

Topics of the talks

The MARD delegation in Beijing continued talks with China on the further expansion of access to the Chinese market for Polish agri-food products and the increase in the food export from Poland.

The parties discussed the following issues:

• prospects for resuming the export of poultry meat;

• finalisation of the procedures for pet food;

• signing of bilateral protocols on export conditions for wild fish and fishery products as well as beans;

• prospects for scientific and technological cooperation between research institutes supervised by the MARD and scientific stakeholders from China (potential topics of bilateral cooperation include diagnosis of animal infectious diseases and protection of soils against climate change);

• sustainable development of rural areas – the parties presented the most important programmes implemented in this regard.

Trade in agri-food products with China

China is one of the most important Polish partners in agri-food trade among the countries of South-East Asia. In 2023, our export to this country reached EUR 147.6 million, while in the first quarter of 2024 – EUR 35 million.

We sell to China the following products: milk products (whey, milk and cream), frozen fruit, chocolate and chocolate products, confectionery, down and feathers.

As part of promotional measures in the Chinese market in 2024, in May the MARD organised a Polish stand at the Sial China fair in Shanghai. We are also planning to attend the Food Expo Pro fair in Hong Kong in August 2024.
