25.06.2024
Lifting the ban on poultry meat export from Poland to China is the effect of arrangements contained in the documents signed during the visit of the Secretary of State Jacek Czerniak to Beijing.
On 24 June 2024, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Jacek Czerniak participated as a part of the delegation accompanying the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda in the plenary discussions with the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping held in Beijing.
Signing the bilateral protocols with the PRC
Signing in the presence of head of states of the document governing the cooperation between Poland and China in the scope of access of Polish food to the Chinese market was the highlight of the meeting.
On behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Deputy Minister Czerniak signed the memorandum of understanding on the plan of work in the area of zone establishment and regionalisation with regard to highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) and the protocols on the terms and conditions of export of wild aquatic products and beans to the People’s Republic of China.
According to the signed documents:
• the ban on poultry meat export from Poland to China imposed in January 2020 due to the occurrence of HPAI outbreaks (Announcement of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China no. 71/2024) was lifted; the process of registration of poultry establishments interested in export to PRC kicked off;
• the final document on recognising by the Chinese authorities of the regionalisation due to avian influenza (regionalisation will guarantee continuous export of poultry meat from the influenza-free regions) by the end of 2024;
• the necessary technical procedures required to commence shipping of wild aquatic products and beans onto the Chinese market will be completed.
Trading in agri-food products
China is one of the most important Polish partners in agri-food trading from among the Southeast Asia countries. In 2023, our export to this country reached the value of EUR 147.6 million, while in the first quarter of 2024 – EUR 35 million. We sell such products as: milk products (whey, milk and cream), frozen fruits, chocolate and chocolate products, pastry, down and feathers) to China. In May 2024, as part of the promotional activities on the Chinese market, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development organised the Polish stand on the Sial China Fair in Shanghai. We also plan to appear on the FOOD EXPO PRO Fair in Hong Kong held in August.
