The strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture was the subject matter of today’s meeting of Mr. Robert Telus, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, with Mr. Yacov Livne, Ambassador of Israel to Poland. The Minister was accompanied by Undersecretary of State Krzysztof Ciecióra.
The meeting took place at Israel’s request. The interlocutors confirmed their mutual interest in strengthening the bilateral cooperation in the area of agriculture, both in the trade dimension and in the scope of the use of the state-of-the-art technologies and innovation in agriculture.
The position of Israel
The Ambassador informed that Israel had at its disposal advanced technologies supporting agriculture. The interlocutors agreed that the use of modern technologies in agriculture was extremely important in light of the effects of climate change and also given the need to safeguard food security.
The position of Poland
Minister Robert Telus pointed out the unused potential for the development of agricultural trade with Israel and expressed his hopes for enhancing trade in agri-food products between our countries. The Minister also informed that Poland expected Israel to lift its restrictions on the imports of poultry meat and its products from Poland and to confirm the conditions for the imports of frozen minced beef from Poland.
The Ambassador expressed his interest in increasing beef imports from Poland. It was agreed that a dialogue in this matter would be continued at the expert level.
Agricultural exports to Israel
In 2022, the value of agricultural exports to Israel reached almost EUR 440 million, growing by 50% compared with 2021. Poland exported mainly beef, wheat and sugar. The value of agricultural exports to Israel in the first three months of 2023 was EUR 91.1 million.
