Before the visit in Japan

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the preparations for the visit of Deputy Prime Minister Henryk Kowalczyk in Japan which is planned in the second half of September. Deputy Prime Minister Henryk Kowalczyk will represent the Polish Government in the ceremony of the funeral of Mr. Shinzō Abe, former Prime Minister of Japan.

Assistance to Ukraine

In the course of the talks, its participants discussed the most important aspects of the current international situation, primarily the involvement of both countries in assistance to Ukraine in relation to the Russian aggression against that country.

The Polish-Japanese cooperation

Another important topic of the meeting was the trade between Poland and Japan. Deputy Prime Minister Henryk Kowalczyk stressed that Poland attributed special importance to the development of bilateral relations in this field and that Polish entrepreneurs were very interested in the development of trade contacts with their Japanese partners.

Trade

Ambassador Akio Miyajima expressed his high appreciation of the quality and taste of Polish food. The data on the trade in agri-food products with Japan also confirm that Polish food enjoys increasingly high popularity among demanding Japanese consumers. In 2021, the Polish agri-food exports to Japan reached the level of EUR 95.2 million (in 2020, it was EUR 61.6 million). The growing trend also continues in 2022. In the period from January to June, Japanese importers bought Polish food for almost EUR 52 million (in the analogous period of last year it was slightly more than EUR 38 million). Frozen beef was the most important Polish product exported to Japan.
