Polish-Lithuanian talks

20.04.2023

The topic of today's online meeting between the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Robert Telus and the Lithuanian Minister of Agriculture Kęstutis Navickas was the problematic situation on agricultural markets and possible measures at the EU level to deal with the damage to EU agricultural producers, especially in the Member States bordering Ukraine.

"Assistance to Ukraine is our common cause, and the burden of this help must not fall solely on the frontline countries whose markets, since the abolition of customs duties, have been flooded by agricultural products from Ukraine. The European Commission did not react for a very long time to a problem that cannot remain a problem for Poland or the five countries of Central and Eastern Europe. That is why drastic decisions have been taken to protect Polish farmers," stressed Minister Telus.

Cooperation and dialogue needed

Minister Telus conveyed that Poland is working closely with Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary to reach solutions. It also involves a very intensive dialogue with the European Commission and Ukraine.

"In the current situation, it is necessary to have an effective, airtight transit so that no tonne of agricultural goods from Ukraine is unloaded in Poland," Minister Robert Telus pointed out.
