On 11 October 2021, Secretary of State Szymon Giżyński met with the Secretary of State in the Mongolian Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, Mr Tumur-Uya Jambaltseren. Dorj Barkhas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia, also took part in the meeting.

Polish-Mongolian talks

During the talks, Vice-Minister Giżyński mentioned the very good relations between Poland and Mongolia and highlighted the significance of the agricultural sector, seen as one of the priorities in bilateral cooperation.

Vice-Minister Jambaltseren expressed his hope that the parties would implement joint projects in agriculture within the framework of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Government of Mongolia on extending a tied aid credit. Secretary of State Giżyński agreed that the conclusion of bilateral contracts would be a good step towards tighter relations. He expressed his support for the initiative, and agreed to extend the deadline for presenting drafts.

The Mongolian party is also interested in developing the cooperation between Polish and Mongolian companies with respect to crop cultivation and seed production. Deputy Minister Giżyński encouraged the Mongolian party to present detailed questions and suggestions. Cooperation opportunities with Polish companies that engage in seed production and animal husbandry were presented by the Deputy Director-General of the National Support Centre for Agriculture (KOWR), Marcin Wroński. He underlined that the Centre was ready to exchange experiences in plant cultivation, animal husbandry, and modern agriculture, and also to organise B2B meetings or trade missions for Mongolian entrepreneurs.

Vice-Minister Giżyński noted that one characteristic that is common for both the Polish and Mongolian economy is the strong attachment to agricultural traditions, which is a good starting point for developing mutually beneficial cooperation.

The talks at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development notwithstanding, the Mongolian delegation paid a visit to the AGROTECH fair of agricultural technology in Kielce, one of the largest in Poland and one of the most significant in Europe.

Poland’s balance of trade in agri-food products is positive. The value of agri-food products exported to Mongolia in 2020 was EUR 20 million. Poland exports mainly vegetables, preserved fruit, and pork.
