The position of Poland

Minister Siekierski presented to the Ukrainian side the agreements reached on Tuesday with the protesting farmers at the European Agricultural Forum in Jasionka.

“Polish farmers expect concrete measures from the Polish government to regulate agricultural trade between our countries,” explained the Head of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Deputy Minister Michał Kolodziejczak expressed hope that the Ukrainian side would show understanding for the demands of the protesting farmers. He recalled that Poland had helped Ukraine from the very beginning of the war.

“We must not forget that our domestic agricultural markets are currently in a very special situation and that only a strong Poland can continue to help Ukraine,” stressed Secretary of State Michał Kołodziejczak.

The position of Ukraine

Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka said he took Polish farmers’ demands seriously and with understanding. He noted that the recent problems resulted from the Russian aggression against Ukraine and were due to the temporary diversion of logistical routes to the West. Deputy Minister Kachka was keen to point out that the bulk of Ukraine’s grain exports were now back on the Black Sea route.

Summary

Minister Czesław Siekierski announced that the talks on agriculture will continue at the Polish-Ukrainian intergovernmental consultations scheduled for 28 March 2024 in Warsaw.
