Polish-Ukrainian talks

Today - at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Henryk Kowalczyk - the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solskyi visited Warsaw. The heads of the Polish and Ukrainian agriculture ministries met in person to continue talks on the possibilities of supporting Ukrainian agriculture in the face of Russian aggression, and to discuss the conditions for mutual trade in agri-food goods.

Actions for food security

Ministers discussed the issue of countering food security threats due to the war in Ukraine. They highlighted the importance of clearing transport routes for Ukrainian goods. Deputy Prime Minister Henryk Kowalczyk informed Minister Solski about introduced and planned facilitations in transport and border control of Ukrainian agri-food goods.

Minister Solski presented the situation in the Ukrainian agricultural markets, mainly grain, and appealed for further joint action to accelerate the clearance of goods at border crossings. He also thanked for the hitherto close cooperation in the field of agriculture, the assistance shown by Poland as well as the adopted and planned solutions supporting the Ukrainian agri-food sector in this difficult time.

Polish-Ukrainian cooperation

At the end of the meeting, the heads of agriculture of both countries signed a Joint Statement on strengthening cooperation in the agricultural sector. The document includes, among others, the declaration of the Ukrainian side to recognize Poland's regionalization against ASF, until the end of June 2022.

Ukraine is an important recipient of Polish agri-food goods, but an even greater supplier of these goods to the Polish market (in 2021, imports amounted to EUR 930.4 million - 7 percent more than in 2020). In 2021, the balance for Poland was negative and amounted to EUR 119.1 million. Exports were dominated by cheese and cottage cheese (EUR 97.2 million - 12% of Polish agricultural exports to Ukraine), products used in animal feeding, chocolate and preparations containing cocoa, coffee and food preparations from CN 2106 group.
