Polish-Ukrainian talks
27.10.2022
Today, at the seat of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Henryk Kowalczyk, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, met with Mr. Mykola Solskiy, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine. The main topic of their talks were further improvements in the exports of Ukrainian agri-food products, particularly cereals, to third countries.
Poland’s observations
Deputy Prime Minister Henryk Kowalczyk noted the very active cooperation in the area of agriculture with the Ukrainian partners. He expressed his satisfaction with Ukraine’s implementation of actions to recognise the regionalisation of Poland’s territory with regard to ASF.
The Deputy Prime Minister also referred to the Memorandum of Understanding on the development of the project to build a transboundary pipeline for the transport of plant oils from Ukraine to the Port of Gdańsk which was signed on 6 September 2022. Polish and Ukrainian experts started intensive work on the technical details of the project. The EU institutions were also informed about the project.
Ukraine’s observations
Minister Mykola Solskiy highly appreciated the contacts between Polish and Ukrainian experts concerning the development of the plan to build a pipeline for plant oils. He also informed about the actions of the Ukrainian border services to separate the vehicles carrying agri-food products, which Poland had proposed earlier.
Joint position
The Ministers agreed that one of the key problems related to the transports of Ukrainian agricultural products was the insufficient number of the available means of transport – railway carriages, trucks and trailers. The Ministers expressed their hopes for assistance from the European Commission in addressing this issue.
Polish-Ukrainian trade
Ukraine is an important partner of Poland in the trade in agri-food products. In the period from January to August 2022, the value of the Polish agricultural exports to the Ukrainian market grew by about 21.4% (from EUR 506 million to EUR 614.5 million). Poland exported mainly cheeses and curds, animal feed products, coffee, mineral water and pork.
