Polish-Uzbek talks on agriculture

Today, Mr. Ryszard Bartosik, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, met with Mr. Bakhrom Babayev, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Poland. The meeting was held at the request of Uzbekistan.

Memorandum of Understanding on Polish-Uzbek Cooperation in the Area of Agriculture

Secretary of State Ryszard Bartosik positively assessed the existing bilateral cooperation in the area of agriculture between Poland and Uzbekistan. Our contacts are implemented at both ministerial and expert levels. The Deputy Minister stressed the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding on Polish-Uzbek Cooperation in the Area of Agriculture signed in January of this year in Berlin. He expressed his hopes that this document would contribute to the intensive development of effective cooperation and provide a basis for the launch of joint initiatives. Ryszard Bartosik added that the Polish-Uzbek Working Group on Cooperation in Agriculture established under the Memorandum should be an important forum for the development of good contacts.

Deputy Minister Ryszard Bartosik also pointed out the large potential for the development of trade in agri-food products with Uzbekistan. In this context, he presented his proposals for the lifting of restrictions on access to the Uzbek market for meat (including pork) from Poland.

The priority is the development of mutual agricultural trade

Ambassador Bakhrom Babayew spoke with appreciation about the achievements of the Polish agri-food sector and stressed that Uzbekistan considered Poland to be the regional leader in this field. In light of this, he expressed his particular interest in becoming acquainted with the Polish experiences in plant breeding and quarantine and in agricultural education. However, the priority is the development of mutual agricultural trade.

The Ambassador submitted to Deputy Minister Ryszard Bartosik his invitation to the International Conference on Food Security in Samarkand (on 7-8 September 2023). He also informed about the visit of Uzbek experts interested in the issues related to the registration of mineral fertilisers planned in the autumn of this year.

Polish-Uzbek trade

In 2022, the value of Polish exports to Uzbekistan was EUR 39 million, growing by 31.6%. We mainly exported meat, edible poultry offal, animal feed products and starch. In the period from January to May 2023, the value of the exports to Uzbekistan was about EUR 26 million (growing by 100% compared with the analogous period of 2022).
