Strengthening the cooperation with Singapore

Today, Secretary of State Lech Kołakowski met with HE Loo Choon Yong, the Non-Resident Ambassador of Singapore to Poland. The meeting concerned the opportunities for intensifying the cooperation in the agricultural sector. The interlocutors paid much attention to the issues of food security and the development of trade in agri-food products.
The state of bilateral relations in the agricultural sector
Deputy Minister Lech Kołakowski noted the positive effects of the existing relations in the field of agriculture. He indicated Poland’s readiness to increase the rate of administrative and business contacts with Singapore as an important and proven partner. The Deputy Minister of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture stressed that Poland was a recognised and reliable food supplier not only in the EU, but also to the world markets. The rich and diverse offer of the Polish agri-food sector could satisfy the food needs of Singapore, especially in light of the challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Secretary of State Lech Kołakowski presented a proposal for expanding the range of products exported to Singapore to include beef. The work on this issue began already in 2017.
The position of Singapore
Ambassador Loo Choon Yong spoke with appreciation about the quality of Polish food. He expressed his satisfaction with the presence and activity of Polish entrepreneurs in the Singaporean market. He also signalled large opportunities for strengthening trade ties, also in the context of Singapore’s membership in the ASEAN.
Trade in agri-food products
Singapore is one of the leading target markets for the exports Polish agri-food products in the Asian region. In 2022, the value of the food which Poland sold to Singapore was EUR 60 million. The main export items included flours, grits and pellets from fish meat and offal, as well as bird eggs in shells.
