The European Union has passed the test

26.06.2023

Thanks to the Polish efforts, supported by the other countries of the 'five', the EU Member States have given a majority of votes in favour of the European Commission's draft regulation to grant Poland, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary a second tranche of aid in the amount of EUR 100 million. The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development is today attending a meeting of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH) in Luxembourg.

Almost EUR 40 million for Polish farmers

– "The European Union has passed the test of European solidarity. We have an aid package of EUR 100 million approved. The frontline countries, namely Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Romania, will receive it. We are fighting for further funds," announced Minister Robert Telus.

Today's vote means that Polish farmers will be granted aid in connection with excessive grain imports from Ukraine. EUR 39.33 million of the EUR 100 million is earmarked for Poland.

Aid from the national budget

The decisions taken will enable these funds to be increased by 200 per cent from the national budget, thus making a total of nearly EUR 118 million.

– "Poland, as the leader of frontline countries, has undertaken successful actions targeted at securing shared interests protecting farmers against loss of financial liquidity in connection with the war in Ukraine," summed up Minister Telus today's vote.
