The meeting with the delegation of Tanzania

The aim of the meeting of Secretary of State Anna Gembicka with the delegation of Tanzania on 22 November 2023 was to exchange knowledge and experiences and to present Polish solutions in the area of support for women in agriculture. The purpose of the visit by the delegation of Tanzania was also to intensify trade between the countries.
The delegation of Tanzania was headed by Neema Lugangira, a Member of Tanzania’s Parliament and the founder of the Agri Thamani Foundation – the largest foundation combating hunger in Africa.
Topics of the meeting
Poland thanked for the approval of a health certificate template for poultry meat and products from poultry meat exported from Poland to Zanzibar. It expressed its hopes for the lifting of a ban on poultry meat imports to mainland Tanzania and stressed that we were interested in the approval of a health certificate for poultry meat and products from poultry meat exported to mainland Tanzania (the United Republic of Tanzania).
During the meeting the parties also discussed the following issues:
- the activity, position and role of women in rural areas;
- the activities of Rural Housewives’ Circles and their support from the state budget;
- the activities of the Women's Council in Agriculture as support for women in rural areas.
Trade in agri-food products between Poland and Tanzania
In 2022, the value of the exports of agri-food products from Poland to Tanzania was almost EUR 33 million, growing by as much as 7,560% compared with 2021. In 2022, the main product exported from Poland to Tanzania was wheat grain (97% of the total exports).
In the period from January to August 2023, according to preliminary data, the value of the exports of agri-food products from Poland to Tanzania was EUR 34.3 million. This means that it grew by 120% compared with the analogous period in 2022.
In 2022, the value of the imports from Tanzania was EUR 32.3 million, growing by 6% compared with 2021. Just as in the previous years, the most important items included unprocessed tobacco and tobacco waste (81% of the value of the imports), with their imports growing by 13% compared with 2021. Further largest items were tea and fish fillets.
In the period from January to August 2023, the value of the imports from Tanzania to Poland was EUR 25.9 million, growing by 15%. Tobacco was the main import to Poland, representing more than 80% of the value of the imports from Tanzania. Other imports included tea, dates, figs, pineapples, avocado, guava and mango.
