Decision of the European Commission

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture learned this morning that the European Commission would not take a decision on compensations in the amount of EUR 100 million for farmers in the frontline states, including Polish farmers.

Talks of the five Agriculture Ministers

“In light of the actions by the European Commission, I initiated today a meeting of the Agriculture Ministers of the frontline states,” Mr. Robert Telus, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, informed.

Minister Robert Telus stressed that the Agriculture Ministers of the five frontline states agreed to send their joint letter to all the Member States.

“We have an impression that the other Member States, including twelve states which have signed the letter, are not really aware of what is happening in the frontline states,” the Minister said.

“In our letter, we refer, among others, to the provision of the Commission Implementing Regulation of 2 May 2023 on the contracts signed earlier, which is dangerous for us,” the head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture added.

The head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture pointed out that the letter to the Member States would contain a call for European solidarity and for an extension at least until the end of the year of the restrictions which will cease to be in effect on 5 June 2023. The joint letter of the Five also contains a call for the assistance resources to be mobilised as soon as possible.
