19.03.2021

Minister Grzegorz Puda participated today in another trilogue meeting with the Minister of Food and Agriculture of the Federal Republic of Germany Julia Klöckner and the Minister of Agriculture of the Czech Republic Miroslav Toman. The talks were also attended by the Chief Veterinary Officers of the three countries. The meeting was held in an online formula.

Trilogue online meeting dedicated to combating ASF

- Poland implements a strategy to limit the migration of wild boar, adapted to national conditions. These actions have specific effects and will continue. Combating ASF requires both commitment and support from the Member States and the European Commission, emphasised Minister Puda.

The meeting served to further strengthen cooperation to combat African swine fever (ASF) in Europe.

Ministers exchanged information on the current epizootic situation and practical measures taken to combat ASF in each country. They discussed further possible forms of trilateral cooperation. Particular attention was paid to the need for ongoing exchange of data on new cases and spread of disease and the need to significantly reduce the wild boar population in the border region.

Minister Grzegorz Puda confirmed that stopping further spread of ASF is a very important issue for Poland and it is in the common interest of our countries, the entire European Union and pig breeders.

An important aspect of the actions is the adoption of specific procedures and the synchronisation of individual tasks by local veterinary and hunter services, as well as the implementation of actions related to the killing of wild boar, which should take place in cooperation with all stakeholders.

In the conclusions of the meeting, Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic adopted a “Joint Declaration on Agricultural and Animal Health Cooperation”, which pointed out the need to strengthen communication channels at all levels.

The Parties also declared their willingness to continue to cooperate with all relevant institutions and to involve the European Commission in order to halt the spread of ASF in Europe.
