We continue the dialogue with Ukraine on agricultural issues

Issues concerning trade in agri-food goods as well as prospects for the development of Polish-Ukrainian cooperation in the field of agriculture are the topics of the meeting between the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Czesław Siekierski and the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitaliy Koval. This is another meeting of this type held in a format extended to include the representatives of industry organisations of both countries. The head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture was accompanied by the Deputy Ministers Michał Kołodziejczak and Adam Nowak as well as a wide range of experts.
Position of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture
Minister Czesław Siekierski stressed the positive effects of the existing dialogue. He confirmed the readiness of Poland to continue talks in that format. The Minister also noted that Poland wanted to develop cooperation with partners from Ukraine and use our advantages, namely, geographical proximity and Polish experience with regard to the transformation of agriculture.
Deputy Minister Michał Kołodziejczak pointed out the need to search for common goals of cooperation. Deputy Minister Adam Nowak outlined the areas of potential cooperation, indicating, among others, agricultural advice and generational renewal in agriculture.
Prospective areas of cooperation
The Polish experts presented information on prospective products in trade between Poland and Ukraine in the oilseeds sector as well as on the requirements in agricultural production in the EU/ Prof. Piotr Przybyłowicz, PhD, Eng., Dean of the Faculty of Automotive and Construction Machinery Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology, who was present at the meeting, presented a joint project of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Warsaw University of Technology in the field of use of biofuels.
There are also great opportunities for development in the scientific and research area. Polish and Ukrainian research institutes confirmed their interest in strengthening contacts.
Ukrainian party on the agricultural relations with Poland
Ukrainian Minister V. Koval thanked the Polish party for the existing support. He pointed to the impact of the war on the Ukrainian agri-food sector. As he informed, at that time the Ukrainian export was again carried out mainly via the Black Sea. When talking with the representatives of the Polish agricultural industry, he stressed that Polish agriculture was then much more efficient than Ukrainian agriculture and encouraged Polish companies to invest in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian experts presented information on the state of adaptation of the Ukrainian agricultural sector to the EU phytosanitary and veterinary standards, as well as on the agrarian structure in Ukraine.
Opinion of industry organisations
The representatives of industry organisations of both countries raised the issue of the possibility of strengthening cooperation, among others, in the dairy and oilseeds sectors. During the discussion, the concerns of Polish farmers in the context of the competitive advantages of Ukrainian agroholdings were strongly highlighted.
Talks on agriculture with the participation of industry organisations of Poland and Ukraine
This March marks a year since the first meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of Poland and Ukraine organised in a format extended to include representatives of industry organisations of both countries. So far, 4 meetings of this type have been held. The heads of the ministries of agriculture of Poland and Ukraine announced that they would be continued.
