Head of the Polish government meets with the President of the United States

26.03.2022

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki met with President of the United States Joe Biden. His visit to Poland took place immediately after the NATO and G7 summits and the European Council meeting in Brussels. This is yet another recent visit of American authorities to our country. The Head of the Polish government and the US president discussed the possibility of continuing the coordination of the international community's response to Russia's unprovoked and unjustified military aggression against Ukraine. The talks focused on strengthening the comprehensive assistance to Ukraine, including humanitarian aid.

The Polish Prime Minister, the President of the USA, and the President of Warsaw visited the National Stadium where PESEL numbers are assigned to Ukrainian refugees. They also attended a meeting with people who have fled to Poland to escape the war. "President Biden and I saw people who had arrived from Kharkiv, Mariupol or Odessa. They simply said 'Our homes were razed to the ground, we barely escaped, our friends were wounded, our neighbours stayed in Ukraine,'" described the meeting Mateusz Morawiecki.

Poles united in helping

"It is incredible how united we are, how we are able to help. Today, our great task is not to waste it," stressed the Prime Minister. The Head of the Polish government expressed his gratitude to all those involved in this process. At the same time, he emphasised that unfortunately, the war has not ended yet. What is more, it may continue in an increasingly brutal form.

Warsaw and Washington in favour of stronger sanctions

Poland, similarly to the United States, is calling for the introduction of stricter sanctions. Only a strong and decisive international response can stop Russia from continuing this brutal attack on Ukraine.

During his speech at the Castle Square in Warsaw, President Biden referred to the words of John Paul II and appealed:  "do not be afraid!". The United States is ready to support the European Union in, among other things, becoming independent of Russian raw material supplies. Poland is one of the countries that are calling for such a solution. We have undertaken measures, which will soon allow Poland to abandon its reliance on Russian raw materials a long time ago.
