Minister Zbigniew Rau meets with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken

On the second day of his visit to Washington, D.C., Minister Zbigniew Rau met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. In their discussion, the Minister and the Secretary focused on current issues related to Euro-Atlantic security, including the crisis caused by the aggressive policies and actions of the Russian Federation and Belarus.
Minister Rau presented an assessment of the security situation in Europe and the Polish understanding of the goals and tactics of the Russian Federation and Belarus. The Minister and the Secretary also discussed the steps taken by the international community in recent days to find a solution to the strained situation around Ukraine related to the intentional escalation of tensions by Russia. In this context, Poland’s chief diplomat expressed support for a consistent US and EU sanctions policy. Minister Rau and Secretary Blinken reiterated unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Also discussed were energy security issues, including Nord Stream 2. Both parties upheld their negative assessment of the Nord Stream gas pipeline as Russia’s political project harmful to the European energy security. The Minister and the Secretary talked about a more intense cooperation with the US in the framework of the Three Seas Initiative.
