Poland in Denmark

The Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) is pleased to announce the PASIFIC Fellowship Programme funded within the MSCA COFUND scheme.

A quarter of a century after the end of the Second World War, shots were fired again and people were killed in Gdansk, the very place where the war started. This time, deadly force was used by the communist police and soldiers to suppress workers’ protests against a rise in prices announced just before Christmas in December 1970. From Gdansk the revolt spread to other port cities of Szczecin, Gdynia and Elbląg. Several dozen were shot dead and over one thousand wounded. The scale of the protests forced Moscow to change the communist leaders who governed Poland since 1956.

A crisis like this can happen once every hundred years. The scale of losses caused by the coronavirus epidemic is yet to be revealed. However, we already see people’s experiencing many difficulties, affected sectors of the economy, and families in despair at the loss of loved ones. Even though the vaccine is on the horizon, our problems will not be over anytime soon. Europeans are yet to see the awaited ray of hope. And whether Europeans will be able to regain their faith in the future depends on the European Union, on its strength, on common effort and on efficiency of the Member States.

On the occasion of the Polish presidency of the Visegrad Group and the 30th anniversary of the Group's establishment, on 7 December 2020 the special concert was held in Copenhagen. Jazz musicians from the V4 member states - the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary joined their forces and created V4 band.

Poland and Denmark are important partners, especially when it comes to cooperation in the energy, IT, construction and food sectors. The interest in the webinar on Polish-Danish cooperation during the pandemic exceeded our expectations and presented the great potential for strengthening bilateral relations in the coming years.

On 3 December 2020, interview with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki on EU budget issues was published in the German newspaper "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung".

The film "I never cry", directed by Piotr Domalewski, had its Danish premiere as part of the 9th edition of the festival of Central and Eastern Europe cinema “East by Southeast.”

“As the Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Army, I hereby notify belligerent and neutral governments and nations of the existence of an Independent Polish State, within all the territories of the united Poland” – with these words Józef Piłsudski addressed the heads of world powers and notified them about the formation of the Second Polish Republic.

On November 11, representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland celebrated the 102nd anniversary of regaining independence and commemorated the memory of the Polish-Danish heroes of the resistance movement Lone and Lucjan Masłocha.
