REGULATION (EU) 2018/1807 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 14 November 2018 on a framework for the free flow of non-personal data in the European Union, applicable in all EU Member States six months after its publication, aims to ensure the free flow of data other than personal data within the Union by laying down rules relating to: data localisation requirements, the availability of data to competent authorities and the porting of data for professional users.

  • It prohibits data localization requirements put in place by EU Member States regarding the storing or processing of non-personal data;
  • An exception to the general prohibition applies where data localization restrictions are justified on grounds of public security.

Under Article 7 of the Regulation each EU Member state shall establish the single point of contact to:

  • provide users with general information on this Regulation;
  • provide assistance to a competent authority from the EU Member State on duly justified request.
