Ceremony to open Forum of Polish Media Abroad

Nearly 100 journalists from 30 countries took part in the 7th Forum of Polish Media Abroad. Held under the patronage of the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, the event took place in Warsaw and Pułtusk between 17 and 20 October.

- Polish media abroad are important to us. You are ambassadors of the Polish word and Polish language - Anna Sochańska, Director of the MFA Department of Cooperation with Polish Community Abroad, declared at the opening event. During the three-day sessions, Forum participants attended expert-led workshops related to various media forms and genres. The main theme of this year’s Forum was the impact of artificial intelligence on journalism.

Tomasz Chłoń, Director of the Department for Strategic Communications and Countering Foreign Disinformation – a new unit with the MFA structure – spoke about how to recognise and counter disinformation online.

The event was organised by the World Association of Polish Media Abroad. Its President, Teresa Sygnarek, stressed that at this year’s meeting, in addition to representatives of traditional Polish media abroad, half of the participants were from new outlets. - This is a sign that Polish media abroad are alive and well, have an audience and are needed - concluded President Sygnarek.

The 7th Forum of Polish Media Abroad was organised by the Association of Polish Media Abroad in cooperation with the Polish Community Association. The project received budget funding under this year’s “Support for the Polish Community and Poles Abroad” competition.
