Consultations of Polish and German foreign ministers
01.07.2021
“Today, we are meeting in Warsaw not only because of our schedule of regular visits, but also to mark the 30th anniversary of the Treaty on Good Neighbourhood and Friendly Cooperation,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Prof. Zbigniew Rau as he opened another meeting of the heads of Polish and German diplomacies in Warsaw today.
During bilateral consultations, the officials discussed issues related to the Polish-German Treaty on Good Neighbourhood and Friendly Cooperation, particularly the disproportions in its implementation. An important point involved the Polish community in Germany, with the focus on the exercise of their right to learn Polish and on the renovation of the Polish House in Bochum.
“It is important to us that the Polish community in Germany enjoys the same opportunities and rights as the German community does in Poland, which is enshrined in the Treaty,” said Minister Rau.
The two top diplomats also discussed Eastern policy, including the Eastern Partnership, the EU enlargement policy, and transatlantic security.
During the meeting, Minister Rau reiterated Poland’s opposition to the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
Previous meeting of the foreign ministers of Poland and Germany took place in Berlin on 15 October 2020.
