Declaration of the Lublin Triangle Foreign Ministers of joint European heritage and common values

On Thursday, during their Vilnius meeting, the heads of Lithuanian, Ukrainian and Polish diplomacies signed a declaration of joint European heritage and common values. The document was adopted on the occasion of the 230th anniversary of the Constitution of 3 May and Mutual Pledge of the Two Nations of 1791.
Signed after the meeting and talks of the Lublin Triangle foreign ministers, the Declaration underlines the historic commonwealth of the three countries and nations which follow the conviction that the presence and the future cannot be shaped on solid grounds without remembering the past.
The document refers to the common heritage of Lithuania, Ukraine and Poland, which played a substantial role in forming political, legal and cultural history of Europe. The Declaration underscores that the territories of the today’s states of the Lublin Triangle were a fertile ground for democratic traditions and civil liberties to develop, which served as a point of reference and inspired independence movements shaping the European identity of the countries of our region.
By signing the joint declaration, the foreign ministers of the Lublin Triangle confirmed that common European historical legacy still binds the three nations together in the united Europe and strengthens a sense of mutual bond and solidarity. The heads of diplomacies of Lithuania, Ukraine and Poland also declared that they will make every effort to ensure that the Belarusians and a democratic Belarus are granted an opportunity to integrate with the EU.
During the meeting in Vilnius, a Roadmap for the development of the Lublin Triangle was also signed. The document points out main directions of expanding trilateral cooperation including trilateral political dialogue, the Triangle’s joint initiatives with international partners, activities taken in the areas of security and defence, energy and cyber security. The Declaration also presents current and future initiatives of Lithuania, Ukraine and Poland aimed at fighting the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and providing economic, cultural and academic support, as well as strategic activities to counteract hybrid threats and disinformation.
