Deputy foreign ministers of Poland and Ukraine hold consultations
02.12.2021
The security situation in the region in the context of Poland's 2022 OSCE chairmanship as well as bilateral issues – these were the key topics of the talks Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz had with his Ukrainian counterpart Mykola Tochytskyi. The political consultations between Poland’s and Ukraine’s deputy foreign ministers took place on 2 December, on the 30th anniversary of the recognition of Ukraine’s independence by the Polish authorities.
The diplomats drew attention to the importance of current security threats Ukraine has been struggling with in recent weeks. They also discussed in detail the situation in the region, taking into account the ongoing developments in Belarus and eastern Ukraine in the context of Poland taking over the OSCE chair in 2022. One of the priorities of our OSCE chairmanship will involve making efforts to peacefully resolve the situation in Ukraine as well as in its closest neighbourhood. “European security is largely the combined result of events taking place outside Poland’s eastern border, particularly around Ukraine,” noted Deputy Minister Przydacz.
Deputy Minister Tochytskyi expressed Ukraine’s solidarity with Warsaw in the face of the hybrid attacks mounted against Poland's eastern border. The diplomats also exchanged opinions on the current political initiatives: The Lublin Triangle, as an active and promising format of regional cooperation that brings together Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine, as well as the Crimean Platform, in the framework of which the Ukrainian side is preparing a roadmap for further action.
Also discussed were current bilateral issues, including those relating to economy, infrastructure, historical policy, and the education of Poles in Ukraine.
