Deputy Minister Gerwel takes part in Polish-Chilean consultations

On 26 September 2023, Undersecretary of State Wojciech Gerwel took part in the 11th round of Polish-Chilean political consultations. Chile's delegation was headed by Deputy Minister Gloria de la Fuente González.
The interlocutors stressed that the relations between the two countries are based on solid foundations, such as respect for human rights, as well as commitment to democracy and principles of international law. The deputy ministers addressed a number of issues related to bilateral relations, underlining especially economic cooperation, including in new technologies, the mining industry and investment. The partners discussed new areas of potential collaboration, among other things in production of green hydrogen, modern technologies or obtaining lithium. Deputy Minister Gerwel also talked with his Chilean counterpart about strengthening the scientific and Antarctic cooperation, as well as the development of tourism.
Other topics discussed during the consultations covered multilateral relations, regional and global matters, including the EU–Chile relations and cooperation within the Pacific Alliance. Russia’s aggression against Ukraine was another important item on the agenda. The politicians stressed that Poland and Chile share the same point of view on this topic. The Polish side also presented the question of German compensation for losses suffered by Poland during the Second World War.
