Deputy Minister Henryka Mościcka-Dendys chairs meeting of Taskforce for Poland’s Polar Policy
15.03.2024
It was for the first time that Undersecretary of State Mościcka-Dendys chaired the works of the Taskforce for Poland’s Polar Policy, noting the importance of Poland’s engagement in the polar agenda as a particular item of foreign policy.
The meeting was attended by representatives of selected ministries and scientific and research bodies, as well as by President of the Polish Academy of Sciences Prof. Marek Konarzewski.
In the face of climate change, a complex international situation, and the need to look for new transport routes, the polar regions have gained special, often strategic, importance not only as research areas. Deputy Minister Mościcka-Dendys underlined that acquisition of a Polish vessel for polar research, the Antarctic Act, and an increased presence of experts in the works of the Arctic Council and the Antarctic Treaty System are among issues to be immediately addressed by the Taskforce.
The Taskforce is a subsidiary organ of the Council of Ministers, competent in particular for monitoring and coordinating the government administration’s polar policy. It was established by the order of the President of the Council of Ministers of 28 January 2022 ("Monitor Polski" Official Gazette of 2022, item 124).
