Held on 14 November, the meeting focused on the issues of individual responsibility for international crimes in relation to the conflict in Ukraine.

The interlocutors agreed that the process of bringing to justice the persons guilty of violations of international law in Ukraine should be an inherent component of ending the conflict and building lasting peace. They also shared information on the engagement of the two states in proceedings pending before domestic and international bodies, and on the work of the international community towards establishing new mechanisms, in particular a special tribunal for the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

- Perpetrators of international crimes against Ukraine or committed on its territory, including war crimes and the crime of aggression, should be brought to justice. It is a matter of credibility of the international community, which is currently discussing the establishment of a special tribunal on Ukraine -  said Deputy Minister Mościcka-Dendys.

Lord Ponsonby emphasised the practical aspects of strengthening Ukraine’s judiciary, including through trainings for Ukrainian judges and prosecutors delivered with the engagement of the United Kingdom in cooperation with Poland.
