Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz at conference on cooperation in the Black Sea region

Promotion of economic cooperation in the Black Sea region, the development of transport corridors and joint environmental protection activities were the main topics of a conference on cooperation between the European Union and the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), which took place in Brussels.

The conference was attended by the secretary general of the organisation, representatives of EU institutions, as well as the deputy prime minister of Serbia, foreign ministers of Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Malta, and deputy chiefs of diplomacy of Poland, Turkey, Hungary and Azerbaijan.

In his address, Deputy Minister Przydacz drew attention to the possibilities that enhanced economic cooperation between the EU and BSEC countries has created for Poland in the Black Sea region. He also indicated the significance of cooperation in the area of transportation, specifically in developing new connections between Europe and Asia. “The success of future cooperation in the EU-BSEC format depends on the implementation of concrete projects based on mutually agreed upon and adopted priorities,” said the deputy chief of Polish diplomacy. The conference was also an occasion to talk about infrastructural projects implemented as part of the Three Seas Initiative. Via Carpatia occupies a special place among them.

While in Brussels, Deputy Minister Przydacz also met with the Managing Director for Europe, Central Asia and the OSCE in the European External Action Service Thomas Mayr-Harting  and with Oliver Rentschler, advisor to High Representative Federica Mogherini. They talked about the current challenges to the European Union’s eastern policy.

The Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation was established in 1992. Its members are: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, and Ukraine. Presidency of the BSEC is now being held by Bulgaria. Poland was given observer status at this organisation in 1992. ‎
