Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz attends Polish Eastern Policy conference

27.11.2019

“Unstable Europe, disturbed transatlantic relations, emotional roller coaster and frustration in the East, as well as Russia’s aggressive policy shape the environment in which we pursue our eastern policy. The main objective of Poland’s foreign policy is therefore national security, regional cooperation, including collaboration within the Eastern Partnership, as well as bilateral relations with Eastern European countries,” Undersecretary of State at the Polish MFA Marcin Przydacz said while launching Polish Eastern Policy 2019 conference.

In his address, Deputy Minister Przydacz outlined the key directions of Polish foreign policy in the context of Poland’s relations with the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Belarus, as well as other former Soviet states. Speaking about the aggressive Russian policy, he highlighted Poland’s consistent actions aimed at strengthening national security, as well as its activity in the area of EU’s sanctions policy. He also noted that Poland supports civil society in Russia and the Russian diaspora, as evidenced by the Boris Nemtsov Forum held in Warsaw last October.

The deputy chief of the MFA emphasised the special role that Ukraine plays in Polish foreign policy and the good state of Polish-Ukrainian bilateral relations, praising Polish-Ukrainian cooperation in the area of history. The undersecretary of state also referred to Poland’s support for Kiev’s European and transatlantic aspirations. “We actively promote Kiev’s closer ties with the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union,” he stressed. Deputy Minister Przydacz spoke about the relations with Minsk, highlighting the importance of Poland’s actions to strengthen the sovereignty of Belarus. He pointed out that improved political relations with Minsk create a good atmosphere for solving bilateral issues and foster economic cooperation.

The deputy chief of Polish diplomacy also talked about Poland’s actions to mark the 10th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership and summarised Polish development assistance efforts. “We continue to support the reform process, especially in Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia,” he noted. The deputy minister further spoke about Poland’s search for new forms of cooperation with countries in South Caucasus and Central Asia.

The Polish Eastern Policy 2019 conference is the 15th edition hosted by the Jan Nowak-Jeziorański College of Eastern Europe, in cooperation with institutions dealing with eastern policy, as well as Marshal’s Office of the Dolnośląskie Province, and the cities of Wroclaw and Gdansk. The debate took place at the Ossoliński National Institute in Wroclaw and the Castle on the Water in Wojnowice. It was held under the patronage of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Jacek Czaputowicz.
