Earlier, Derek Chollet visited Kyiv to talk about Nord Stream 2, economic development and anti-corruption reforms in Ukraine, as well as the US support in the country’s conflict with Russia. The visit in Warsaw is of working nature. The agenda of the meeting at the MFA included bilateral and transatlantic relations, security policy and defence, including energy security, as well as the Three Seas Initiative. The main goal of the Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s counselor's visit was to present the details of the US-Germany deal on the Nord Stream 2.

“Giving up the attempts to prevent the launch of NS2 pipeline poses a threat to Ukraine and Central Europe in political, military and energy dimensions, while strengthening Russia’s potential to destabilise security situation in Europe, and aggravated divisions across the NATO and EU member states,”  deputy head of Polish diplomacy told his American partner. NS2 is a geopolitical project, not an economic one, which will make Germany and indirectly the whole EU dependent on Russian gas, and strengthen Moscow’s influence. The deal will not balance the energy security deficit caused by the launch of NS2.”
