On the subject of Belarus, the diplomats talked about the current situation with
respect to demonstrations of Belarusian society taking place in Minsk. They
emphasised the importance of European support for civil society in Belarus,
condemned repressions against protesters, and called for the release of the
detainees. The officials agreed that the international community, the European Union
in particular, needs to stay highly engaged in matters relating to Belarus. They
expressed their readiness to continue actions in this area in the nearest future.

The ministers further agreed that the EU needs to keep the issue of respect for
human rights by the Russian Federation authorities high on its agenda.
