The deputy head of Polish diplomacy held a videoconference with his Turkish counterpart, Sedat Önal. The meeting focused on the most important aspects of eastern policy, security issues and bilateral cooperation.
Both officials stated that in the face of unrest in such regions as the South Caucasus and Eastern Europe, credible and effective international engagement is necessary, in particular as part of instruments offered within existing formats of the OSCE and NATO. The deputy foreign ministers of Poland and Turkey also highlighted that all actions of states and international organisations should be guided by the principle of primacy of international law.
Speaking on the subject of international security, the deputy chief of Polish diplomacy emphasised the importance of transatlantic unity and cooperation within NATO, and recalled Poland’s support under Tailored Assurance Measures for Turkey, provided at Turkey’s request. The Tuesday’s talks also focused on Polish-Turkish-Romanian Trilogue established in 2012. “It serves as an important cooperation platform between our three countries that represent NATO’s eastern and southern flank,” said Deputy Minister Przydacz. The Trilogue is a unique format which helps better coordinate matters vital for Poland, Turkey, Romania as well as for the region, especially in the field of state security and transatlantic cooperation.
The videoconference also covered bilateral cooperation. Polish deputy minister expressed his satisfaction with the development of relations between the two countries. “Poland attaches great significance to collaboration with Turkey. Ankara is our important partner, and our partnership is based on history and common membership in NATO,” he noted.
