07.10.2021
The undersecretary of state recalled that Poland is currently celebrating the 25th anniversary of its membership in the OECD. He stressed that the OECD’s role as the leading organisation which defines world-class economic standards should be maintained. Moreover, speaking at the anniversary session of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC), the deputy head of the Polish MFA highlighted the role the DAC plays in setting global standards of development cooperation, which are then implemented by donors of development assistance all over the world.
During the anniversary ministerial in Paris, chaired by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the organisation’s new vision and strategy for its global relations were adopted. Deputy Minister Jabłoński pointed out that Poland appreciates the OECD’s role as an analytical centre developing the best standards for the world economy, which should be broadly disseminated, including in partner countries. He reiterated Poland's support for launching talks on candidate countries’ accession to the OECD, and pointed to Ukraine as one of the partner countries where the organisation should increase its presence.
In a separate DAC anniversary session, the undersecretary of state underscored that over the last 60 years, the DAC has established its strong position as a world-class standard-setter in development cooperation. He added that for Poland, the DAC membership is most of all a trademark of excellence and quality. He also pointed out that the DAC needs to intensify its work on instruments to include the private sector in development cooperation, and called on the Committee to pay greater attention to the Eastern Partnership countries, which are priority states for Polish development cooperation.
The OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) is an international economic organisation seated in Paris, established in 1961. Its mission is to search for and promote the best political and economic solutions to improve the quality of life of people across the world. The Organisation also runs research and conceptual works focusing on key social and economic issues. Poland has been a member since 1996.
The Development Assistance Committee (DAC), established in 1961, is a forum that brings together the most important donors of development assistance. The Committee is the OECD’s integral part, however, not all OECD countries are DAC members – this is due to high standards individual states have to meet in implementing their development policies and the required volume of the Official Development Assistance (ODA). Poland has been a DAC member since 2013.
