Deputy Minister Paweł Jabłoński visits Egypt

08.06.2021

On 7-8 June 2021, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Paweł Jabłoński paid a working visit to Egypt. He was accompanied by delegations of the MFA, the Ministry of Economic Development, Labour and Technology (headed by Secretary of State Grzegorz Piechowiak) and the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (headed by President of the Board Krzysztof Drynda). The main items on the agenda were political and economic consultations at Egypt’s MFA. The talks covered Polish-Egyptian bilateral relations with special focus on economic relations, cultural, academic and scientific cooperation (including support for Polish archaeologists) as well as current events in the Mediterranean, North Africa and the Middle East. After the consultations, a Polish-Egyptian visa exemption agreement was signed for holders of diplomatic passports.

During the visit, Deputy Minister Paweł Jabłoński also attended the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Katowice Special Economic Zone and the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

Egypt remains one of Poland’s key partners in the Arab world and in Africa. Particularly important for us are economic relations, where we want to use the full potential of such sectors as new technologies, clean energy, agriculture, food industry and food processing - Minister Jabłoński said during the conference.

The deputy head of Polish diplomacy also took part in the Egyptian–Polish High Tech Business Forum, which gathered over 150 participants. More than a dozen Polish high-tech companies which accompanied the government delegation used this opportunity to present their product and service offer. The economic mission organised by the Polish MFA was the first event of this kind after a long pause caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and has met with keen interest from the Egyptian side.
