20.01.2020
“Poland considers Germany not only as its neighbour with whom it has good-neighbourly relations and close economic cooperation, but also as an important ally in NATO and in the European Union,” Deputy Foreign Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk said at the European Civic dialogue conference that was held in Berlin.
“Let us talk like partners, let us not avoid tough topics and let us speak openly about what unites us and what divides us today and about our expectations,” stressed the Polish deputy foreign minister. He went on to say that Poland and Germany are looking for ways to overcome problems and for areas where Polish-German cooperation could intensify. Together we support the EU enlargement policy, together we clarify our positions on climate strategy, and Poland clearly voices its strong objection to the Nord Stream 2 investment.
In Berlin, Deputy Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk also met with Michael Roth, the Minister of State for Europe at the German Foreign Office. They reviewed the current bilateral and international agenda and discussed European cooperation, including the German presidency of the EU Council that starts in mid-2020. Another point on the agenda were Russia’s attempts at falsifying history.
Bilateral issues, including the situation of the Polish community in Germany and Polish language teaching were the main topics discussed at the Polish deputy minister’s meetings with the Vice-President of the Bundestag Hans-Peter Friedrich and representatives of most fractions sitting in the German parliament – CDU Secretary-General Paweł Ziemiak, FDP’s Michael Georg Link, Manuel Sarrazin from Alliance 90/The Greens, SPD’s Dietmar Nietan and Johannes Schraps and Johann David Wadephul from the CDU. Deputy Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk said: “We hope that the demands of the local Polish community regarding Polish language teaching and starting the renovation of the Polish House in Bochum will soon be put into practice.”
Deputy Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk also visited the Berlin branch of the Pilecki Institute.
