“I am glad that the relations between Poland and Turkey have gained a new momentum since our last meeting in Warsaw (in November 2019). The year 2021 marked a breakthrough in the history of our political relations,” Poland’s deputy foreign minister said in a discussion with his Turkish counterpart Faruk Kaymakcı. In their talks, the two politicians focused on security in the face of the war started by Russia in Ukraine. Poland’s deputy foreign minister called on the Turkish side to continue supporting Kyiv. He thanked Ankara for its engagement towards peace in Ukraine by undertaking to mediate between the belligerents and for the humanitarian aid Turkey has been providing for refugees. “We find it important to include in the mediation agenda the issues of evacuation from besieged towns of Ukraine and humanitarian aid for them,” said Deputy Minister Szynkowski vel Sęk. The two officials also spoke about bilateral relations. Poland’s deputy foreign minister emphasised that cooperation with Ankara is important for Warsaw, especially in such fields as security, fight against terrorism and disinformation, as well as trade and migration. Talking about the relations between the EU and Turkey, the deputy minister noted Warsaw’s ongoing support for Turkey’s European perspective. “The Union and Turkey need one another as reliable and stable partners,” he said.

While in Ankara, Poland’s deputy foreign minister also met with Akif Çağatay Kılıç, Chairman of the Committee of Foreign Affairs at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey; Ilnur Çevik, Adviser to the President of Turkey; as well as Professor Mehmet Akif Kireçci and Professor Seyit Sertçelik, representatives of the Presidential Security and Foreign Policy Committee. The meetings centred around issues related to the war in Ukraine.

From Ankara the deputy foreign minister went to Istanbul, where his agenda included a visit to the Baykar Makina company, the producer of the Bayraktar TB2 combat drones.
