European Policy Department
The European Policy Department is responsible for Poland’s EU membership with respect to such matters as the EU’s political and institutional development, treaty reforms, political aspects of the development of the EU’s internal and external policies, enlargement policy, macro-regional strategies, and the external dimension of the EU’s area of freedom, security and justice.
The European Policy Department coordinates bilateral relations with European countries, except for Eastern Europe. It handles matters related to multilateral cooperation in Europe in the framework of the Visegrad Group, Weimar Triangle, Central European Initiative, Council of the Baltic Sea States, and other formats. It is in charge of contacts with the European affairs departments of the ministries of foreign affairs of European states.
The Department facilitates the implementation of the European Union Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region in Poland. It coordinates the activities connected to Polish claims of compensation for Poland on the losses sustained by Poland as a result of German aggression and occupation during the Second World War, 1939-1945.
