- Challenges connected with enhanced contacts with Eurasia, the Organisation’s enlargement to include candidate countries or cooperation with the G20 are among the issues faced by the OECD that are of key importance from the point of view of Polish foreign policy - emphasised Head of the Foreign Service Arkady Rzegocki during a conference held at the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
On 22 November, Head of the Foreign Service Arkady Rzegocki took part in the conference marking the 25th anniversary of Poland joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Arkady Rzegocki highlighted that Poland closely follows and strives to support economic reforms in countries of Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia. To that end, for many years it has been supporting the OECD Eurasia Competitiveness Programme addressed to 13 countries of the region. He also recalled Poland’s efforts to increase its presence in the G20’s work. He pointed out that the OECD is currently facing the need to make an important decision concerning the opening of accession negotiations with six candidate countries. The head of the foreign service also noted that Polish nationals should be more broadly represented in managerial positions at the OECD.
The OECD is an international economic organisation seated in Paris, established in 1961. Poland has been a member since 1996. The OECD’s mission is to search for and promote the best political and economic solutions to improve the quality of life of people across the world. The Organisation also runs research and conceptual works focusing on key social and economic issues.
