“Belarusian society has every right to live in a free, democratic, and law-abiding country that can independently decide on the direction of its social and economic development. Poland has consistently supported, and will continue to support, the Belarusian people’s aspirations to reach this goal,” Head of the Foreign Service Piotr Rychlik said in his address during a ceremony to inaugurate Diplomatic Studies at the Centre for East European Studies. The venue for the event was the Columned Hall at the University of Warsaw’s Faculty of History.
The head of the foreign service highlighted also the resolve with which the Belarusians who have been compelled to emigrate seek to not only preserve their language and identity but also continually improve their competences in order to respond to the Belarusian people’s current needs in terms of living in a modern country.
Director Jan Malicki, the originator and organiser of the Diplomatic Studies series, spoke in a similar vein, noting that the programme aims at educating in Poland the new diplomatic personnel of Belarus.
The classes will be taught in cooperation with the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. The lectures and workshops will be delivered by academics from the University of Warsaw as well as foreign ministry officials. The curriculum will cover international relations, foreign and security policy, diplomatic protocol, international law, and intensive French and Polish language courses.
Also present at the launch of the 4th edition of Diplomatic Studies, held under the banner of “New Personnel for New Belarus”, were Ambassador of France to Poland Étienne de Poncins, Pavel Latushka, Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus, and participants in the earlier editions of the programme.
