Heads of diplomacies of Poland and Great Britain meet
05.04.2022
Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau held bilateral consultations in Warsaw with UK’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Liz Truss. The talks mainly covered Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, including its humanitarian consequences and implications for the security in Central and Eastern Europe and the whole Alliance. The officials reiterated the unity of the transatlantic community in the face of Russian aggression and stressed their support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Minister Rau thanked for Great Britain’s engagement in the strengthening of NATO’s eastern flank and hoped for further development of the Polish-British cooperation. He also talked about Poland’s activity in supporting Ukrainians and the needs which emerged as our country has been hosting unprecedented numbers of refugees. Secretary of State Truss informed Minister Rau about Great Britain’s activities to date in the military, political and humanitarian aid provided to Ukraine. Poland and Great Britain are at the forefront of supplying aid to the country under attack.
The interlocutors agreed on the need to increase assistance to Kyiv and international pressure on the authorities in Moscow, including through sanctions. They discussed cooperation opportunities on the international forum to resolve the conflict and hold responsible the perpetrators of acts of violence amounting to war crimes.
Liz Truss has been the head of Great Britain’s diplomacy since September 2021. It was her first visit to Warsaw since she took up the post.
