Humanitarian aid for Ukraine and Moldova

24.06.2020

“On this day, we again meet our international and human obligations sharing what we can with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The aid is a token of our solidarity and the readiness to cooperate with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, our important partners within the Eastern Partnership,” said Deputy Minister Paweł Jabłoński during the departure ceremony of further two humanitarian convoys carrying equipment and supplies to fight the coronavirus pandemic in Ukraine and Moldova.

Polska Pomoc dla Ukrainy i Moldawii

The International Solidarity Fund helps to deliver the supplies to Ukraine and Moldova. The aid for Ukraine was donated, among others, by PKO BP, PKN Orlen, PZU, PGNIG, PFN and the Ministry of Health. Krajowa Spółka Cukrowa, a sugar refinery consortium, and the Material Reserves Agency provided the aid to the Republic of Moldova. The event was attended by the convoy organisers, donors’ representatives, supporting institutions and heads of diplomatic missions of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova – Ambassador Andrii Deshchytsia and 1st Secretary of the Embassy of Moldova Andrei Sava, respectively.

“The convoy will cross the Polish-Ukrainian border as early as this afternoon thanks to special customs procedures and the engagement of the National Revenue Administration (KAS) officers. The customs formalities concerning the import and export of pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, personal protective equipment and other COVID-19-related goods are processed immediately. The aim of the KAS is to provide professional and prompt customs clearance of such goods,” underlined the Head of KAS Magdalena Rzeczkowska. The convoys consisting of the State Fire Service vehicles will arrive in Ukraine and Moldova via Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.

As partner support in mitigating the impact of the epidemic, Ukraine will receive 40,000 masks, 50,000 disposable gloves, over 18,000 visors, over 130,000 litres of disinfectant liquid and over 1,000 protective suits. The aid for Moldova consists of 30,000 masks, 4,800 visors and 20,000 litres of disinfectant.

Both ventures are possible with the help of the State Fire Service, the Ministry of Interior and Administration, National Revenue Administration as well as Polish embassies in Kiyv and Chisinau. The aid will arrive in those cities to be distributed among specified hospitals. Hopefully, some of the supplies will also reach the hospitals near the Russia-occupied areas.

Deputy head of Polish diplomacy was convinced that the humanitarian actions will further enhance close political and economic links with our partners. He also noted that the workers from the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine contribute to Polish economy, which is beneficial for all sides.
