The key objective of the meetings will be the stage of reforms in North Macedonia and Albania in the context of both countries’ preparations to open access negotiations with the EU. The officials will also discuss expectations before the EU-Western Balkans Summit planned in Zagreb in May and regional security issues within transatlantic cooperation.

The meetings will precede the March European Council, on which a decision will be made on opening access negotiations with the two countries.

The visits in North Macedonia and Albania will be held right before the informal EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Zagreb on 5-6 March 2020.
