Meeting between top diplomats of Poland and Tunesia

09.12.2024

The meeting in Warsaw today between Minister Radosław Sikorski and his Tunisian counterpart, Mohamed Ali Nafti, was the first one between the foreign ministers of the two countries in seven years. It came in a year that marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Poland and Tunisia.

During today’s talks, the ministers expressed their willingness to intensify political, cultural, scientific, and economic relations. Scheduled for 2025 in Warsaw, political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers will be a step in this direction.

Poland and Tunisia have achieved a steady growth in economic relations, especially as regards tourism-related cooperation. This year, our country has proved to be the second most important market—just after France—for the Tunisian tourism sector among the EU countries. Agriculture and renewable energy production remain the priority areas of cooperation.

As part of the visit, the heads of diplomacy of Poland and Tunisia signed a cooperation agreement between the respective Diplomatic Academies, which will allow research exchanges of young diplomats as well as the sharing of knowledge about our countries and regions.

Today’s consultations also covered a discussion on the regional and international situation, including the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East, North Africa, and the Sahel.
