Meeting of foreign ministers of Poland and Rwanda
11.05.2021
Vincent Biruta, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda, started his three-day visit to Poland by meeting Minister Zbigniew Rau.
"Our bilateral relations are developing dynamically in many areas. This is evidenced, among others, by three memorandums on bilateral cooperation signed today and by meetings of the Rwandan delegation with Polish companies implementing business projects on the Rwandan market", emphasized Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau.
During the meeting the state of bilateral relations was discussed, highlighting their dynamic development, especially in the economic area. Polish companies are already present in Rwanda and some more plan to invest and implement joint projects. More and more young Rwandans choose to study in Poland, appreciating the high level of education in Polish universities. In 2018 - 2020, over a thousand students from Rwanda studied at Polish public and private universities.
During the visit to the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, three memorandums of understanding on cooperation in the field of higher education, in the area of cybersecurity and establishing regular political consultations within the activities of the ministries of foreign affairs of both countries were signed. The interlocutors agreed that in developing bilateral relations we should focus on trade and investment activities, especially in innovative sectors. Rwanda, highly ranked in international rankings assessing the conditions of doing business and with one of the highest broadband internet coverage indicators on the African continent, is particularly attractive for Polish ICT and high-tech companies.
In addition, the meeting was an opportunity to discuss the role of Rwanda in the region and in the African Union, its involvement in the integration processes on the African continent and in UN peacekeeping missions (Rwanda is one of the largest troop contributors).
During his visit to Poland Minister Vincent Biruta and the accompanying delegation will also meet representatives of Polish companies in Mazovia and Upper Silesia.
